1. River Fishing- If you are in the mountains fishing in a cold mountain stream for trout is a must. Fly Fishing has been a popular fishing style since man started fishing with hooks. Trout fishing is hot during early spring through summer months.Salmon fishing is good between September and December in most areas. Know the species and study a map and look for on-line comments about the area you are in.
2. Hunting Lodges – Depending on what time of the year you vacation determines what you can hunt. You can find hunting clubs for day hunts or for full retreats ! Many areas have prime deer hunting, Turkey, elk, moose, quail, chukar , duck. Also many guides offer hunting and vacation packages. Have the emanates of a bed and breakfast with the adventure of a wild game hunt .
3 Bike riding – finding a cool mountain biking trail can be tough to find and really depends on where you are. In Georgia we are fortunate to have some really awesome biking trails. Our state parks have done a nice jobs building awesome mountain bike trails. Alone or with a group mountain biking is a fun activity. Always study your trail before you set out and make you have the proper tools. Always wear a helmet while on a bike! A helmet can save you life if you hit a tree or a rock !
4. Deep woods camping- if you want to really get close to nature and brave the elements camping is the perfect way! Fresh mountain air in the AM is good for your health. Fresh creek fish is a great treat and will make you stomach feel nice. Always be aware of wild critters like bear, snakes, spiders,wolfs, and other things.
5. Downhill ski -Snow skiing in the US is mostly a winter activity and can be enjoyed by anyone. . The United States has many great ski areas Depending what area you are in you can expect great skiing for about 4-6 months out of the year. Many resorts have advanced snow making systems that allow more snow and in some cases extends the season..
6. Aquatic locomotion-Jumping in a cool river stream to cool off is a must if you are in the mountains. Currents can be dangerous so be aware and try to pick a safe location Many mountain rivers can rage during winter and spring months so summer is always safer swimming.
7. Mountain Hiking- Finding a good hiking trail is easy in most parks and can lead to magical places . Try to hike with a friend it is much safer. Always be sure to be prepared before you hit the trail and drink plenty of water before you leave and bring plenty with you. Also be sure to bring enough food for your planned hike. Bringing the right tools can save your life, like matches, flashlight, compass, and a good sharp knife. To keep you goods dry bring a plastic garbage bag. You never know when bad weather can strike or you make a wrong turn. A cell phone can be useful also and may work at higher elevations .
8. Horse Trail Riding- Horse riding high on the mountain top is well worth it Horse back is experience that everyone should have. . Expect a sore butt and a few aches the next day, but well worth it.
9. Kayaking, boating, rafting- Floating down the creek in a Canoe or Kayak is a great way spend early summer. Some people fish, some people take pictures and others just enjoy the views from another perspective. Remember to always wear a life jacket and never underestimate the power of water. Guided floats are a great way to learn the river and gain experience.
